Kalundu at a glance
Roma/Kalundu - Lusaka, Zambia
Overview
Filled with rich history, large plots, and plenty of greenery, Roma & Kalundu are two of the most upmarket suburbs in central Lusaka. These features have made these areas popular for families & senior businesspeople and officials alike. Somehow, the two areas have managed to marry the hustle & bustle of city life with some of the most serene living experiences Lusaka has to offer. Zambezi Road, the road linking the two areas, was recently upgraded, and this has proven to be a major improvement in terms of accessibility and ease of living.
Residents of these areas enjoy tranquil living while still being close to a number of different points of interest within Lusaka, making it an ideal property destination for home-letters/owners and businesses alike.
Distance from Key Points
As central locations, access to the airport is of utmost importance. Upgrades to Great East Road have made the 22 km drive to Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) very straightforward, and at just over 3 km from the Lusaka CBD, they are close enough to the "action" of the capital city.
Schools
For families with children, Roma & Kalundu can be described as an educational utopia, with several high quality private schools in the area. Perhaps the most notable is Lusaka International Community School (LICS), which sits at the border of the two areas and is very popular amongst diplomats and is well-renowned. Roma Girls, a Catholic school, boasts one of the most impressive alumnae in the country, is also a popular and high-quality school. As far as primary schools go, Pinewood Preparatory School and the British International Primary School (BIPS) are the crème-de-la-crème, and are both in the area. The International School of Lusaka (ISL) is also only 5.5 km away.
Shopping Malls
As prime central locations, there is no shortage of shopping experiences available to residents of these two areas. The newly-built Zambezi Shopping Center has a 24-hour convenience store, while Foxdale Court has over a dozen different retailers and frequently hosts food & thrift markets. The access to Great East Road puts these areas in close proximity to EastPark Mall, Manda Hill Shopping Mall, and Arcades Shopping Mall, three of the largest malls in the country. Residents here are literally spoilt for choice.
Hospitals
Kalundu is home to Victoria Hospital, a high-end private hospital that provides quality healthcare. Other notable healthcare facilities nearby include Cfb Medical Centre (5.6 km), Medland Hospital (5 km) Coptic Hospital (5.7 km), and the State-owned Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital (7.4 km).
Special Attractions (Restaurants, etc.)
The three malls mentioned above have their fair share of clubs, lounges, and eating experiences, but Roma & Kalundu are no exceptions when it comes to contributing to the vibrant Lusaka living experience.
For the religiously inclined, the modern Miracle Life Family Church is located along Zambezi Road, with plenty of events and activities outside the traditional church program. Roma Parish, one of Lusaka's most established Catholic churches, also has a number of different events and activities throughout the calendar year.
Having a place to sit and relax from is important. Even with the tranquil living these two suburbs offer, sometimes being at home just doesn't cut it. This is what The Retreat, a continental restaurant located in Roma Park, is made for. Juvenex Spa & Beauty Salon is another perfect get-away from home, with multiple services offered for your ultimate relaxation experience.
If you're looking to kick back and relax, or get your groove on, look no further than Fox & Hound at Foxdale Court, a laidback bar/restaurant for any occasion, be it a midweek drink or a birthday celebration. If that sounds too relaxed for you, you can take things up a notch (literally) by going to Sky Bar, a club upstairs at the same location.
Another attraction in this area is the Mulungushi Village, a gated residential area that also has central amenities such a swimming pool, a tennis court, a restaurant, and a gym. The Mulungushi International Conference Center is arguably the most popular in Zambia, hosting events such as weddings and government summits.
The malls may have the majority of the entertainment, but in Roma & Kalundu, sometimes, you may not have to have to go too far from home.
